Thank you for visiting our wedding website.  My brother, Bob, who is doing this for us, asked me to write sort of an introduction and welcome.

So, Welcome, and here’s the introduction:

I’m The Bride (AKA the “chick in the dress” which is what the wedding’s all about, anyway).  At least, I managed to convince Larry (just the groom) and several other people of that.  But seriously, here’s the cast of characters:

Maid of Honor                                                 Susan Poellinger, Sister of the Bride

Best Man                                                         Jim Poellinger, Brother-in-Law of the Bride

Bridesmaid                                                       Chelsea Gilster, Daughter of the Groom

Groomsman                                                      Norman Gilster, Son-in-Law of the Groom

Bridesmaid                                                       Sarah Boge, Daughter of the Groom

Groomsman                                                      Justin Boge, Son-in-Law of the Groom

Mother of the Bride                                          Lynn Olson

Father of the Bride                                            Doyle Robinson

Mother of the Groom                                        Mabel Finch

Officiant                                                           Reverend Donald Fox

Usher                                                               Andrew Osornio, Nephew of the Bride

Guestbook/Honorary Personal Attendant          Vivian Osornio, Sister-in-Law of the Bride

Petals & Bubbles                                              Anthony, Ryan & Matthew Robinson,

                                                                        Nephews of the Bride

My wedding began as a joke-not the marriage, mind you, but the wedding.  Some of the girls at work and I were watching a TV show called “For Better or Worse.  It’s a reality TV show, like “Trading Spaces” but in this case, they pick a couple and their friends get $5000, a wedding planner, and one week to plan their wedding.  So, before we were even engaged, the girls in my department nominated us for the show.  They were all planning what they would do (to save money, the friends always have to cut corners and make things for the wedding): one would make the cake, another one the decorations, etc.  Well, anyway, we did not get selected but the idea came in handy when I had to plan my wedding (on a budget-$5000 was a fortune compared to what I wanted to spend for one day! And on a timeline almost as tight as the one on the show-8 weeks from the time the date was set).  We’re blessed to have generous, talented friends & family and I’d like to acknowledge those who helped make our wedding day so special and beautiful.

Location:  Jim & Susan Poellinger

The ceremony took place in their park (I mean backyard)-isn’t it perfect?  It’s always lovely but they worked tirelessly to insure that everything would be especially beautiful that day.  Susan picked out the willow arch and had to order it on the Internet.  My Dad picked it up and drove it out from California.

Wedding Cake:  Karen Jensen

Karen was one of the original “For Better or For Worse” girls and I don’t think she knew what she was getting herself into!  She had never made a wedding cake before; only had taken a couple of cake decorating classes but she nervously agreed and that was one of the best parts of the wedding for me!  When people would say to her beforehand “I didn’t know you made wedding cakes, Karen”, she told them “I don’t.  But if Jeanie thinks you can do something, you believe her”.  I knew she would do a fantastic job and she did.  She and I looked at wedding cake designs online and we were brainstorming right up until the last minute.  It was more beautiful than I even imagined-and people said it was the most delicious cake they had ever had!  In the cake-eating pictures, I look like I’m enjoying it a little too much (mmmm, CAKE!) but that was literally my first taste of it.  She had been bringing in taste test samples to work but I was dieting and couldn’t try it!

Wedding Cookies:  “The Shower Girls” (Jo, Darcey, Karen, Sherry, Patsy)

Before we planned any other details, I knew that I wanted to serve my special frosted sugar cookies.  I had wanted to make them for Susan’s wedding and didn’t get to.  The girls at work wanted to have a shower for me, and I asked if, rather than games and gifts,  they would help me decorate the cookies.  It was a lot of fun and they were so pretty-the cookies, I mean, although the girls looked nice too!  You can see the cookies in some of the cake pictures.  Other shower guests helped make the favors (kitty-wrapped candy bars and bubbles).

Floral Design:  Irene Toomey

I wanted to order the flowers on the Internet and do them ourselves.  My mom knew that it was going to be a bigger deal than I thought it was, and she convinced me that we needed some semi-pro help.  Irene is the “Martha” of the office, and while she had never made fresh bouquets before, she was game.  I had ordered the tussie mussies for bouquet holders and tussie mussie style budpins for the boutonnieres on the internet and she helped bring my vision to life!  She helped with the table decorations too.

Coordinator:  Ruth Breidel

This was supposed to be an honorary title but it turned out to be an actual “job”.  When we had to make the decision (at 11:30 for the 4:30 wedding!) to move the reception, she helped move and organize everything.  She supervised everything at the reception, picked up last minute things, and generally made the day “stress free” for me.  Ruth did what she does best-organize, organize, organize!  Ruth is seen in the photos putting the boutonnieres on.  Her sister, Cheryl, made the Groom’s cake and her nieces were servers at the reception.

Video:  Jody Peterson

Jody is a good friend as well as co-worker (she and I worked together before, too) and was drafted at the last minute-she was practically the only one without a job.  We’re so glad that she agreed because she gave us wonderful video memories!

Candid Photos:  Ann Kiel

Ann is my boss and a friend, and shared her photographic talents (most of the reception pictures are hers) and also generously provided us with all the prints and pictures on CD. She’s normally a sports and pet portrait photographer, but she did a fabulous job and really captured all of our special moments.

Special Confectionary Assistance:  Ranee Poellinger

Ranee is Susan’s sister in law and used to work at Fanny Farmer.  She had volunteered to do anything to help and, when the caterer wanted $1.75 per chocolate dipped strawberry, I knew that I had found her niche!  The morning of the wedding, we got together at my Mom’s and she, Susan, and I dipped over 100 strawberries.  They were the hit of the reception.

Entertainment:  The Headliners (Tari Tovsen, Beth Woodruff, Dan Bottcher, Steve Duff & Cary Thaldorf sitting in for Larry)

This is Larry’s band, and they shared their time and talent for the dance.  Everyone enjoyed dancing to their music.  Larry did a couple of songs and Tari’s son, Josh (Kid Rock) sat in too.

Dance Location:  Beth & Jeff Woodruff

Beth is the lead singer in Larry’s band and she and her husband own Mirage, where the dance was held.  They made things so easy for us and were very accommodating when we had to move the reception there at the last minute.  They also provided us with the beverages for the reception and dance.

First Dance:  Bill Harnden & KQEG

Bill is a friend and a local music historian. He arranged for a local radio station to go on the air live, at the time of our first dance, and play one of Larry’s first records, “Til the End of Time”.  That was a truly amazing surprise and is such a special, romantic memory for us.

 Bridal Attire:  Leslie Viner

Leslie is my mom’s cousin and a seamstress which came in very handy since I had to order my dress 2 sizes too small!  Because she was willing to work with me right up until the last minute, I was able to get into it in its original size.  Unfortunately, neither one of us was sure I was going to do it, so she had already taken all the seams out!  She didn’t even mind the extra work-I’m not sure who was more excited when I zipped up-me or her!  She also made my beautiful pink veil.

Our Wedding PartyJim & Susan, Norman & Chelsea, Justin & Sarah

Thank you for sharing our day and our happiness with us.  Justin and Sarah actually shared the weekend with us-their wedding reception (they were married in Ireland on May 8th) was the next day!

Catering & Floral Expenses:  Mom & Dad

Thank you for convincing me that I didn’t have to do it all myself!

I hope that I haven’t forgotten anyone but there were so many people who made our wedding special, I probably did.  Thanks to all those who attended.  We truly enjoyed spending our day with you.
